Adult Services

At Seabrook House, we are committed to providing quality addiction treatment for the physical, emotional and spiritual illness of chemical dependency. Our structured, nurturing programs, along with the principles grounded in the Twelve Step philosophy of recovery, combine to foster the kind of change necessary for a clean and sober life.

Our wide range of addiction treatment services include intensive stabilization (also known as detoxification), individual and group therapy, and education in the biological, social and spiritual aspects of addiction in residential treatment. Our inpatient rehabilitation program consists of a three phase continuum of care for adults ages 18 years and over.

Phase One is a 28 to 35 day residential program not including detox.

Phase Two is a step-down to extended care for men at our transitional living facility in Pennsylvania (PA) or for women at our New Jersey (NJ) rehab center known as  Changes4Women. This is a gender specific, sober living environment on the grounds of a luxurious estate. The length of stay is a minimum of 3 months, allowing the patient to apply the tools and skills learned during phase one, but in a “real world” environment that includes open access to outside self help meetings, along with daily group counseling to address relapse triggers and warning signs. For women, Seabrook East offers a minimum 90 day long term rehab program located off site of the main campus at our New Jersey facility.

Phase Three is an outpatient aftercare program consisting of at least 1 x week of therapy for a minimum of 8 months. Our clinical staff embraces the principles and philosophies of various Twelve Step programs throughout all phases of treatment.

Seabrook House also believes that the delivery of addiction treatment must be specifically oriented toward the gender, age, sexual orientation, and culture of each patient. Group therapy is provided in a gender-specific setting. Upon admission, every patient has a 2-day orientation with a detox counselor and is oriented to the treatment and standards of the 4 – 5 week treatment program.

Wellness & Complimentary Therapies

COMPLIMENTARY THERAPIES

ACUPUNCTURE: The acupuncture detox protocol used at Seabrook House was developed in the early 70’s as a non-pharmaceutical alternative to methadone for opiate withdrawal. The technique has been studied extensively and has been found to reduce stress; craving and anxiety as well improve sleep and generally aid withdrawal in all types of substance abuse.  Acupuncture affects blood flow and metabolism in the brain, it affects the areas in the brain involved in chemical dependence, it modulates pain and normalizes the autonomic nervous system and the stress response.  Acupuncture can be a catalyst for change (an “inside job”) by creating a quiet internal space.

EMDR & BRAINSPOTTING: The core of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) treatment involves activating components of traumatic memory or disturbing life event and pairing those with alternating bilateral or dual attention stimulation. This process appears to facilitate the resumption of normal information processing and integration.  Brainspotting is a new psychotherapy approach that theorizes that the field of vision can be used to locate eye positions that correlate with relevance to inner neural and emotional experience. After they are located, these eye positions, or Brainspots, may through maintaining eye fixation, lead to a healing and resolution of issues that are held deeply in the non-verbal, non-cognitive areas of the neurophysiology.

EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY: Equine assisted therapy incorporates horses experientially for emotional growth and learning.  It is an experiential modality in which patients learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses, and then discussing thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and patterns.

MUSIC THERAPY: The music therapy process connects patients to their creative power, so that emotional and spiritual needs can be met without the use of substances.  The primary goal is to create a “safe place” within which the participants can explore their relationship with their Higher Power, obstacles to recovery, and new ways of being.  In addition, music experiences such as listening, singing, playing and imaging are seen as ways to identify and practice new ways of responding to stress/anxiety, to gain insight into old behaviors and improve moods.

REFLEXOLOGY: Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive, holistic therapy based on the principle that there are reflex points in the feet (or hands) for every organ, gland, and part of the body.  Addiction, illness, stress and injury put the body in a state of “imbalance” and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively.  By applying pressure to specific points, called reflex points, on the feet/hands, blockages in corresponding parts of the body can be released and the free flow of energy to the whole body can be restored.  Tensions are eased and circulation and elimination is improved.  This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.

REIKI: Reiki is an ancient healing practice, administered by the gentle laying-on of hands that provides an immediate release of anxiety and a calm restfulness.  Reiki helps the body and mind to release healing from within that will aid in recovery.

THERAPEUTIC CHAIR MASSAGE: Therapeutic Chair massage is done in a comfortable, supportive chair using massage techniques which can be given through clothing.  The session focuses on the upper body—head, neck, shoulders, back, and arms.  Chair massage creates a nurturing space where patients can relax and let the soothing touch of massage loosen tense and achy muscles and calm the nervous system.

RECREATION SERVICES

ADVENTURE ROPES COURSE: The combination of Low and High Ropes Courses enable participants to practice taking risks as well as develop leadership, communication, problem-solving, and coaching skills.

FITNESS CENTER- The Fitness center’s equipment includes recumbent bikes, elliptical trainers, treadmills, free weights and the Precor Universal Machine. Regular exercise helps to reduce stress, depression, and anxiety as well as improves the quality of sleep.

RECREATION/LEISURE SKILLS GROUP: This group is designed to help patients learn how to incorporate meaningful leisure activities into their daily recovery plan. This group facilitates team building, as well as the development of trust and communication skills.

WELLNESS PROGRAMS

RHYTHM IN RECOVERY: Drumming is a dynamic; interactive experience that produces physiological, psychological and social stimulation that enhances the recovery process and incorporates the 11th Step.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION: Mindfulness is the practice of focusing one’s attention on what is happening in the present moment. This can be helpful for dealing with feelings arising from living in the past or future. Meditation is the discipline of doing this. Mindfulness/meditation groups occur regularly for each primary group.

RELATIONSHIP GROUP: There are three main relationships that need to be fostered in recovery. These are the relationship with oneself, the relationships between oneself and others and ones relationship with their higher power. Relationship Group allows each of these relationships to be explored and provided opportunity for growth through a variety of interactive exercises.

SLEEP HYGIENE: Sleep difficulties are a common withdrawal symptom.  This group reviews the principles and practices of a healthy sleep hygiene protocol that does not involve any pharmacological sleep aids.

STRESS MANAGEMENT: This group uses a combination of didactic presentations and experiential exercises to help patients understand and learn to manage everyday stressors.

YOGA: Hatha Yoga-style yoga techniques are coordinated with the 12 Steps to help patients practice physical and, subsequently, emotional surrender.  Through practice, yoga helps patients begin to embody the 11th Step, encouraging them to quiet the mind, and be open to the guidance of their lives, identify a Higher Power and genuinely experience serenity.

MaterLiber Program (Women With Children)

Seabrook House is proud to offer a distinct program for mothers with children known as MaterLiber (Latin for mother-child). This unique primary residential chemical dependency treatment program provides a place where a mother is permitted to have her children accompany her into rehab. The children can remain throughout the entire treatment process. Our facilities afford a mother the confidence that she will have access to her children during this crucial early stage of recovery. We believe all women deserve the right to have access to an inpatient alcohol and drug rehab program without worrying about the safety of their children.

  • Admission Requirements – Only children ages zero through four (4). A mother who comes with her children must submit a record of all immunizations for each child, a health and prescription benefit card, a recent history and physical for each child by their family physician or pediatrician and all medications for their children. The child’s pediatrician must write a letter that the child is free from all communicable diseases. While the mother is in treatment, the child(ren) will attend Upper Deerfield Pre-school , located only a 5 minute drive off campus, for up to nine (9) hours per day, five days a week. Please review the policies of the daycare by clicking on the web site link. Parents must download and complete the application forms for each child and fax to the Admissions Department at (856) 453-1022 FAX.
